Audaxity Breakthrough Ride Sets Course to End Cancer

Video: On Aug. 17, 1,074 participants came together to raise $1,062,344 that will fund three brand new initiatives at the MCW Cancer Center. Watch the recap video to relive your ride!
On Sunday, August 17, more than 1,000 riders, volunteers, survivors, and supporters came together at American Family Field for the very first Audaxity ride. From century riders to families on the 5-mile loop, the energy was unstoppable. Riders conquered every mile. Volunteers handed out medals with pride. Survivors rang the victory bell. Champions filled American Family Field with cheers that echoed for blocks.
“The diagnosis of cancer doesn’t only affect the person with cancer. It affects their family and everyone in their community,” said Mary Horowitz, MD, MS, Deputy Director of the Medical College of Wisconsin. “It really takes an entire community to do the kind of work that is necessary to make that diagnosis not so life changing.”
And that’s exactly what we did. We brought together our community and showed the world the power of science, solidarity, and determination to fuel discoveries that will change the future of cancer.
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in Wisconsin. The overall incidence and mortality rates exceed the national average. The MCW Cancer Center is tackling these challenges through innovative research that is transforming how cancer is detected, diagnosed, and treated.
“Every day, our researchers are racing against time to deliver solutions that transform lives,” said Gustavo Leone, PhD, director of the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. “Cancer is relentless, but so are we–we’re determined to drive discoveries that change its trajectory and create a future where this disease is no longer in control. Audaxity is an inspiring example of how a united community can amplify that work.”
We called the ride our “Breakthrough Ride” not just because it was the first but because it set a pace we’ll keep pushing until cancer is finished. It proved what happens when science, community, and determination move in the same direction.
A huge thank-you to every rider, donor, volunteer, sponsor, and partner who made this ride possible. Because of you, every mile, medal, and bell ring pushed us forward. Every dollar raised will power brilliant scientists at the MCW Cancer Center to turn discoveries into real impact for patients and communities everywhere. Every ride will keep adding to the score so cancer keeps losing.
And we are not done yet. The ride was the warm-up. Now we take on eradicating cancer for good.
